Meet the Team

Our small but perfectly formed team combines decades of experience in data capture and remote sensing with specialised expertise in spectral science, forestry, ecology and data analytics.

Chris Norton OBE DFC

Director

Chris co-founded 2Excel Aviation in 2005 and is the business’s Accountable Manager, focusing on the commercial and financial strategies. Since 2016 he has also led 2Excel Engineering, the business’s large aircraft maintenance and repair organisation.

Chris spent 22 years in the RAF and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for operations over Kosovo. He commanded No 1(F) Squadron, an operational Harrier squadron, and was awarded the OBE for his 14 years as an operational Harrier pilot.

Dr Chloe Barnes

Head of Remote Sensing

Chloe joined the 2Excel Geo team in 2017, following the completion of her PhD in Remote Sensing. She is a domain expert in tree disease detection using spectral imaging and LiDAR techniques from airborne platforms and is an experienced data analyst.

Since joining 2Excel, Chloe has expanded her skills and experience and, in 2019, progressed into the Head of Remote Sensing role.

Dr Gary Llewellyn

Remote Sensing Consultant

Gary has a PhD and first class degree (Hons) from the University of Southampton. He has over 20 years of experience in remote sensing and over 12 years in airborne remote sensing.

His expertise is with spatial and spectral aspects of remote sensing terrestrial vegetation, experience in calibration and validation of airborne and satellite data products and has supporting airborne research projects in a wide range of applications and in challenging environments across the world.

William Oxford

Senior Remote Sensing Analyst

William has a first class Physics degree (Hons) from Imperial College and MSc from University College London.

William has over 20 years of experience in defence research and is a Qualified Weapons Instructor in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. He specialises in image and data analysis.

Jennifer Killeen

Senior Remote Sensing Scientist

Jennifer has an MSc in Geoinformation Technology and Cartography from the University of Glasgow, and a BSc MPhys (Hons) in Physics from the University of Warwick. Jennifer has experience in terrestrial remote sensing, including multispectral and very high-resoltion satellite imagery, as well as a background in analysing extreme ultraviolet emission in sunspots to determine properties of the solar atmosphere.

Jennifer’s areas of expertise include imagine processing, data analysis, remote sensing, cartography, GIS, geomatics and environmental mapping.

Loreena Jaouen

Senior Geospatial Analyst

Loreena has an MSc in Remote Sensing and Environmental Mapping from University College London (UCL) and a BSc in Natural Sciences from Durham University.

She has experience in both optical and SAR remote sensing, including image processing, multi-temporal change detection and image classification. Loreena has a particular interest in conservation, environmental monitoring and landscape management.

Jasmine Cartwright

Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analyst

Jasmine has a BSc in Geography from Durham University, and has experience in high-resolution aerial and satellite imagery processing and analysis, as well as using Digital Elevation Models to analyse temporal and spatial topographical change across a range of geographical environments.

Jasmine also has particular interests in wider geomorphology and environmental reconstruction, geology and environmental sustainability.

Katie Payne

Remote Sensing and Geospatial Analyst

Katie has an MSc in Remote Sensing and GIS from Aberystwyth University. She has experience processing and analysing high-resolution optical and radar imagery.

Katie’s experience encompasses continuous change detection (CCD) analysis, as well as species distribution modelling (SDM).

Katie has an interest in sustainability, environmental and habitat management.

Steve Case

Collections Manager

Steve is highly experienced specialist camera operator and and electrical design engineer having spent 34 years in the BBC.

Steve is the most experienced operator of Hyspex cameras in Europe having flown over 1000 hours.

Steve also designs and manufactures bespoke equipment to facilitate ground collect.
